History of Harveys

Harvey’s first opened on Kingsway in 1927 and started out as a dried goods store.  As the years went on, then owners, Florence and Albert Harvey, began carrying hardware and house-wares.  Appliances, in the form of wooden coal and oil stoves started appearing in 1936.

“It was one of the first stores of its kind on Kingsway,” recalls Richard, who took over the business from his parents in the early 1960’s.

Today, Harvey’s boasts over 38,000 square feet of showroom that is stocked with some of the most desired home décor and appliances available on the market today.

Although well known for its appliance selection, Harvey’s has an entire floor dedicated to furniture and home décor. Harvey’s has certainly come a long way since the dried goods business.
